VLAN Trunking

VLAN trunking function simplifies VLAN configuration on ports that aggregate lot of access VLANs. It also helps entry-level switches that has limited VLAN groups to handle a huge number of VLANs.

A typical use case is rental apartments or multi-dwelling units (MDUs), where the myPSK (PPSK) function is used with hundreds of VLANs to maintain each lessee's privacy on a public SSID. To ensure mobility for all wireless clients, all aggregation ports must support all VLANs in the network. This not only increases the complexity of device configurations but may also require administrators to upgrade to higher-end switches to manage the VLAN traffic.

MDU Network Example

With VLAN trunking, each switch only needs to configure VLANs for its managed wired access ports, while VLAN trunking handles all other tagged SSID traffic carried by the myPSK function.

Go to Manage > Switches > Details > Port > Configure to enable VLAN trunking function on target ports.

Note: To guarantee management traffic, untagged port membership of management VLAN will overwrite VLAN trunking setting.
